What’s Next? Time to Pass It Along!

July 11, 2019

In Matthew 4:19, Jesus called two fishermen, Simon Peter and his brother Andrew, and said, “Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.” (NASB) Through the ages, the same call has gone out to all those who put their faith in Jesus Christ. He reaches the lost today through faithful witnesses like yourself.

The Apostle Paul said, “Therefore, if anyone is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come! All this is from God who reconciled us to Himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation: that God was reconciling the world to Himself in Christ, not counting men’s sins against them, And he has committed to us the message of reconciliation. We are therefore Christ’s ambassadors.” (2 Corinthians 5:17-20)

Our work today as ambassadors is to help bring people, who are separated from God by sin, back into harmony through faith in Jesus Christ.

As you begin to share the Good News of Jesus Christ with others, it is important to practice some key questions to ask and to have a good plan of salvation ready to present when the Spirit of God provide the right opportunity.

There are many great questions you could ask a person as you prepare to present the Gospel.

Two that I have used most often are:

  • Do you know for sure that if you were to die today you would go to Heaven?
  • Suppose you were to stand before God and God were to say to you, ‘Why should I let you into Heaven?’ What reason would you give?

These questions invariably lead to much discussion if the person is interested in learning about Christ. At some point in the discussion, you will need to present a clear plan of salvation based on Scripture. I’ve prepared a simple plan based on the word “SURE”, and the Touching Lives website has a page dedicated to the Sure Process. I encourage you to study and memorize this simple plan of salvation and be ready to present it to lost friends and loved ones as the Spirit leads.

May God light a fire in your heart for reaching the lost! You are Christ’s ambassador, and my prayer is for you to remain open to His leading and to be ready to “always be ready to make a defense to everyone who asks you to give an account for the hope that is in you, yet with gentleness and reverence.” (1 Peter 3:15 NASB)

Bible Reference

And he said to them, “Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.”
Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.
All this is from God, who through Christ reconciled us to himself and gave us the ministry of reconciliation;
that is, in Christ God was reconciling the world to himself, not counting their trespasses against them, and entrusting to us the message of reconciliation.
Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, God making his appeal through us. We implore you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God.
but in your hearts honor Christ the Lord as holy, always being prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you; yet do it with gentleness and respect,
