“‘Now therefore, if you will indeed obey my voice and keep my covenant, you shall be my treasured possession among all peoples, for all the earth is mine; and you shall be to me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation.’ These are the words that you shall speak to the people of Israel.”
Exodus 19:5-6 (ESV)
On April 6, 2019, the United States Global Positioning System (GPS) satellites required a reset. Without this reconfiguration, every cell phone map and the entire system of military defense coordinates faced certain collapse.
Every day requires a reset to get in tune with God. You cannot operate on yesterday’s outdated coordinates. You need fresh direction for today’s trials and tomorrow’s opportunities.
Yesterday, we learned that you must prepare to meet with God. In today’s passage, Moses learns a second principle for his mountaintop meetings: You must plan to meet with God.
For the first time in history, God writes down His Word here in Exodus 19. Before this moment, the Word of God remained unwritten. God inscribes the law into tablets of stone, resetting coordinates and repositioning perspectives.
God instructs His people to repeatedly reset and return to these words to obey and keep the covenant. One of the most important ingredients for meeting with God is listening to His words.
God now inscribes His words on the tablet of our hearts through His Spirit, offering the very same instruction: Return to this revelation daily for a reset.
But how should you do this? Start by planning a systematic approach to exploring God’s Word. Turn off your cell phone, shut down all screens, remove distractions, close your door and open the Scripture. And then in your meeting, let God do the talking.
Your plan should also include a specific place. In Exodus 19, this place is a mountain. For you, it may be a recliner in your living room or lying in bed when you wake up, but you need a mountain where you meet with God each day. God is less concerned with the particular place or amount of time you spend—what He wants is you.
On April 7, 2019, we woke up without batting an eyelid because the reset had restored the system. Your system is due for a reset. So prepare your heart, make a plan, and go to your own place of meeting.
God waits for you on the mountain.
Prayer: Father, I hear Your Word, and I’m listening. Help me make plans in my schedule each day to meet You on the mountain. I know You’re waiting for me—ready to encourage, correct, train and equip me for every good work. My ears and heart are Yours. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
