With The End In Mind

March 26, 2025

"Be careful then how you live—not as unwise but as wise, making the most of every opportunity…"
Ephesians 5:15-16 (NIV)

Did you know that battles are often won or lost before the first shot is fired?

Military commanders understand this truth well. General Norman Schwarzkopf, who led allied forces in the Gulf War, planned his victories by first determining exactly what he needed on the battlefield, and then ensuring those resources were in place. He fought battles backward—starting with the end in mind.

In your spiritual life, you can adopt this same strategic approach. Paul urges you in Ephesians 5:15-16 to "be careful how you live—not as unwise but as wise, making the most of every opportunity." What does it mean to live wisely?

Living wisely means understanding your purpose and mission–it’s beginning with the end in mind. What has God called you to? God has equipped you to use every opportunity to bring others to the knowledge of His salvation.

Our end is clear—God wins, heaven is real, and souls are at stake. The decisive battle was won at the cross, but you’re still engaged in the mission for hearts and souls. As a Christ-follower, you have received both the Gospel and the power of the Holy Spirit to share the good news with others.

So where do you start? Each morning, pray that God will give you opportunities to share your faith in words and action. Serve your family, colleagues and strangers with Christ-like love. When you make decisions with the end in mind, you are using today’s opportunities wisely.

Prayer: Lord, Thank You for Your victory on the cross. Help me make the most of every opportunity to share Your love. Give me the wisdom to live strategically, remembering that eternity is at stake. May I be faithful in the mission You've given me today. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
