"I have brought you glory on earth by finishing the work you gave me to do."
John 17:4 (NIV)
Do you finish what you start? Or can you see half-finished books and projects when you look around?
Every year, millions of Americans quit their jobs, drop out of college, or abandon their New Year's resolutions by February. Look around your own home—maybe it’s the unfinished book, a home renovation project that remains incomplete, or the exercise equipment doubling as a clothes rack. We are masters at starting things but often struggle with finishing them.
In stark contrast, Jesus came to earth with a divine determination to finish what He started. Long before creation, He had a perfect plan with a beginning, middle and end.
In His prayer to the Father in John 17:4, Jesus declared with confidence, "I have brought you glory on earth by finishing the work you gave me to do."
Jesus knew His purpose wasn't just to teach or heal, but to complete the work of salvation. He lived a perfect life, died a death, and rose in triumph. His mission was comprehensive—from start to finish.
Your spiritual journey didn't end with a prayer you prayed years ago or a card you filled out at church. That was just the starting line! God is still writing your story, and He's committed to completing the good work He began in you.
Do you feel like you’ve stalled spiritually? God wants to reconnect with you when you are in each area–even if you feel like it has stalled. Find an accountability partner to help you stay the course and take one step toward progress today.
You may not finish everything you start in life, but your walk with Christ doesn’t have to be among the unfinished. There's too much He wants to do in you and through you. Remember—He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion!
Prayer: Heavenly Father, Thank You for Your faithful commitment to finish what You started in my life. When I grow weary or discouraged, remind me of Your unwavering love and purpose for me. Renew my passion to serve You, love others, and share my faith. I surrender my unfinished agenda and embrace Your perfect plan. Help me to run this race with endurance, keeping my eyes fixed on Jesus, the author and finisher of my faith. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
