“I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.” John 14:6
The Bible teaches that there is an afterlife called heaven, and it is perfect, the most wonderful place we can possibly imagine, and even beyond what we can imagine. The Bible also teaches that there is only one way to get there, and that is through the Person of Jesus Christ.
The reality is that our culture mixes the Bible in with many other religions as “one way of believing.” And in fact, it’s increasingly not the most popular of beliefs. And even those who believe it are often somewhat marginal, seeing the Bible as authentic, a great reference for living, but maybe not completely accurate and literal. I mean, Noah’s Ark? Really? But if we believe the Bible and believe Jesus is Who He says He is, then that creates a dilemma because this is the most important information we can possibly know and share.
If the Bible is true, then the urgency of our mission is right in front of us. As Paul said in Romans 9, it caused him great sorrow and anguish. To know that some people that are close to us are doomed to an eternity in hell unless we—or someone else—share the truth of Christ with them in hopes that they will place their faith in Christ and be saved. Largely we have left it to someone else…the pastor or minister or the zealous Christian friend. Maybe just bringing our kids to church or praying before meals is enough. But is it?
Do you believe in the trustworthy book, the Bible, the Word of God? If it’s true, then it must change how you live, what is important to you, what you spend your time doing, and how you view your relationships, both within your family and in the larger community. If it’s true, then you possess the greatest news, the greatest gift, and the greatest truth of all time. Why not share it?
God, thank You for the gift of heaven. Give me a burden to share the Good News of Jesus with everyone I know. Help me to see others who do not know Jesus as people who will perish unless I speak about the Gospel to them. May I see the world as Paul saw it, and give great sorrow and anguish for those who are far from You. In Jesus’ name, amen.
