“But as for me, I trust You.” Psalm 55:23
Not long ago there was a news story about a man who treated the sick. He prescribed medicine, examined patients and came up with treatment plans to make them well. The only thing was, he was not a doctor. He was a fake. He wore a lab coat and stethoscope and said the right words, but he had never studied or passed an exam, didn’t have a medical license, and never did a residency.
Would you trust your treatment to such a person? Probably not. When you are ill, you want to be treated by someone who has studied all of the diseases and conditions, knows the body and human chemistry, is well read on all of the relevant medical information, and who has been tested and approved by senior medical professionals. You want a real doctor, someone you can trust your healing to.
We need a spiritual doctor we can trust. In God, we find One who knows our spiritual condition. He knows the makeup and consequences of our sin and our disobedience. But more than that, He knows the cure. In fact, He provided the Cure in the person of Jesus Christ. In Jesus, we can know complete spiritual healing. He can cure us of the consequences for our sin, and set us on a path of eternal life. We can trust our spiritual healing to God.
Dear Lord, you know how to heal me better than anyone else. So right now, as my heart is hurting, I pray that you would heal me in the way only you can. Give me your peace and your comfort, and help me to only look to you as I seek healing. In Jesus' name, amen.
