“He leads me in paths of righteousness for His name’s sake.”
Psalm 23:3b (NIV)
Several years ago, I visited Mt. Rushmore and learned a fascinating story about an unfinished masterpiece. Sculptor Gutzon Borglum never finished his work, stopping due to budget and time constraints. Millions of viewers every year marvel at an unfinished work of art.
Like that monument, your life is an unfinished work of art. You are constantly being refined by a divine sculpture! Today’s verse reminds you that God leads you in paths of righteousness, crafting your journey with purpose and intention.
But this path may prompt you to wonder where Jesus is leading or if you’ll reach your destination. If your life ended today, what would remain unfinished? Would a dream be unrealized? Would a promise be unkempt? We all carry unfinished stories and unspoken words.
In stark contrast, Jesus Christ is the only historical figure who perfectly completed His divine assignment. From birth to death, He followed God's path with complete humble obedience. His path was marked by righteousness, service, and ultimate sacrifice.
Jesus promises to guide you as a shepherd–and to complete the work He began in you. (See Philippians 1:6) His promise remains even when the path winds through the rocky terrain of suffering and challenge.
Today’s verse reminds you that even difficult paths can be paths of righteousness when God is leading.
Whether smooth or rocky, uphill or downhill, your ultimate goal remains consistent–you must continue your walk with God on the path of righteousness. This may mean not accomplishing everything you want on earth.
But if you follow and love Jesus with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength, He’ll lead you to complete precisely the life He designed for you.
Prayer: Dear Lord, Help me to follow You wholeheartedly down the path of righteousness that You have carved out for me. Thank You for sending Your Son to be my example, and Your Spirit to be my companion. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
