“Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you…”
Luke 2:11 (NIV)
If you are a part of a church that always talks about sin, you are probably in the wrong church.
But if you participate in a church and never hear about sin you are definitely in the wrong church. The message of the Gospel is not bad news, but good news, rescuing you from the only thing keeping you from all that God has for you.
That is why one word comes first to describe Jesus in Luke 2:11, “Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you…”( Luke 2:11, NIV) The only thing that will keep you from a close relationship with God is sin. The only thing you need is a Savior who can rescue you from sin.
And in Jesus, you have the Savior’s embrace. He is Christ–the Anointed One. He is the long-awaited and promised Messiah of the Scriptures. He is the Lord of everything and everyone.
But first, He is the Savior. He is the Savior who comes to rescue you from the sickness you cannot heal, the problem you cannot solve, and the trap you cannot escape. He rescues you when you first put your trust in Jesus, and He saves you every moment after. No sin can separate you from the Savior’s love.
The gift of Jesus Christ is monogrammed and personalized with your name on it–eternally etched into the Savior’s nail-scarred hands.
Rick Warren says, “You don’t need a Savior because you may die tonight; you need a Savior because you have to live tomorrow.” To understand, enjoy and truly experience Christmas, start by saying four words: “I need a Savior.”
Prayer: My God, I need a Savior. You help me make decisions and give me wisdom, but my greatest need is forgiveness and You’ve already provided it. Thank You for the gift of unreserved forgiveness I find in Jesus Christ. This Christmas season, help me focus on You, with all of my heart. In the Name of my Savior, Jesus, Amen.
