The Proof Is In The Pudding

April 4, 2025

“Taste and see that the Lord is good; blessed is the one who takes refuge in him.”
Psalm 34:8 (NIV)

Have you ever tasted something that completely changed your mind about it?

The saying "The proof is in the pudding" originated as "The proof of the pudding is in the eating." You can't know if pudding is good by looking; you must taste it.

This wisdom comes straight from Scripture: "Taste and see that the Lord is good. Blessed is the one who takes refuge in him!" (Psalm 34:8). David doesn't just tell you God is good—he invites you to experience God's goodness personally.

He tells you to taste God–and see that He’s good. When you experience God directly, His kindness, grace, and mercy become more than concepts—they become your reality. As Hebrews 6:5 describes it, you "taste the heavenly gift" and "the goodness of the word of God."

In a couple weeks, we celebrate Jesus rising from the grave. You might wonder, "Can I really know this resurrected Savior?" Yes. You can experience Him personally–this invitation is intended for you: "Come near to God and he will come near to you" (James 4:8a, NIV)

Today, take a specific step toward experiencing God's goodness firsthand. Set aside 15 minutes to taste His presence through prayer. Then think of one person who also needs to taste God's goodness, and pray about extending an invitation to them.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, I praise You for the season where we remember your journey to the cross and celebrate your resurrection. I want to taste and see Your power and Your glory in new ways this year! Help me move beyond intellectual knowledge to truly experience Your goodness. Give me the courage to invite others to experience You this Easter season. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
