The Domino Effect

February 3, 2025

“But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.”
Matthew 6:33 (NIV)

What if I told you there's a way to turn your overwhelming mess into something manageable?

It's called the domino effect. Just as one domino can trigger a chain reaction, setting one key priority in your life aligns everything else.

Jesus revealed this spiritual domino effect in Matthew 6:33 when He says, “But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.” (Matthew 6:33, NIV)

The first two words Jesus uses in this verse show you your priority. “Seek first.” “Seek” means “to strive for diligently” and “to desire extremely strongly.” The action is continuous. Jesus is saying, “Keep on seeking first.” In other words, “Start here. Every day.”

Where do you start every day? What do you seek first and most? Is it financial independence? Celebrity status? Happiness? Power? When you put the right domino first, you receive more than what you may desire–you receive what you need.

Instead of financial independence, Jesus provides you with food, shelter and clothing. Beyond personal happiness, Jesus gives you eternal joy. More than celebrity status, you get to know God and be known by Him. Forget chasing power because Jesus gives you lasting significance

When you seek Him first, He supplies you with all you need.

What does this look like in your life? Make it your number one priority to seek God's Kingdom and God's righteousness, and this choice informs everything else. Filter every choice through two questions:

  • Will this advance God's kingdom?
  • Will this reflect His character?

You don’t have to wonder what your top priority is today. Jesus has already told you. This domino effect is powerful. When you seek the King first, He will give you the kingdom, and you will see the domino effect of blessing on your marriage, family and work.

Every day, seek the King through His word and worship. Create a routine that puts Him first. As you pursue the King of the kingdom, you will experience the domino effect of righteousness, peace and joy that only He provides.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, Thank You for the simplicity and clarity of Your Word. I hear You today, inviting me to come and experience rest and peace. Lord, help me seek you first. Take the place as the King of my thoughts, desires and choices. And by Your Holy Spirit, let Your peace and rest cascade into every area of my life. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
