“Listen to my prayer, O God, do not ignore my plea. Hear me and answer me.”
Psalm 55:1 (NIV)
When my young grandson plays in the house, he likes to jump on the furniture, climb the walls and explore under the kitchen table. I’m constantly telling him to slow down, afraid he will hurt himself. Sometimes he listens, and other times he does not.
Eventually he may stub his toe, or fall and scrape his knee. Sometimes I see it, but more often I hear it– that sharp cry of pain that needs attention.
I’ll ask what happened. I’ll brush away a tear and he’ll tell me where it hurts. I’ll pull him in close, asking if he will be okay. And in a few moments he nods, and then he turns back to his play. Sometimes what you need is a listening ear, a caring voice and an affectionate embrace from Someone who cares.
Your heavenly Father cares for you this way. He’s ready and waiting to hear about your hurts. He wants to hear not only about your physical hurt, but also emotional, relational and spiritual.
He hears you when you cry out, and He is attentive when you share your troubles.
He answers with His Word, the Bible, not only telling you that He cares, but also offering words of comfort, counsel and instruction. And He promises that He has a future for you beyond this world. No matter what is thrown at you today, tomorrow is going to be okay because He holds tomorrow.
Trust that God cares about and is listening to your hurts today. Share everything with Him. He will give you the grace for all that He has for you to do today. And just like that two-year-old who’s jumping on the sofa cushions, you can know that your Heavenly Father is right here with you to hear you, and comfort you when hurt happens.
What hurt are you carrying in your heart today? Allow Him to hold you close, and comfort you with peace and rest.
Prayer: Good Father, You will answer me when I pray; I know you always will. Hear my words like you always do as you listen to my every prayer. I want to take a moment and share what hurts today. And I praise You for being the God of everlasting love and care. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
