“For the eyes of the LORD range throughout the earth to strengthen those whose hearts are fully committed to Him.” - 2 Chronicles 16:9a
Reading this verse and thinking about the culture we live in, it’s easy to believe that God isn’t watching over us anymore. In reality, God is not only watching, He is right here with us in the middle of our difficulties, our crises, our joys and pains, our triumphs and troubles. And for those who place their trust in God, there’s an additional promise—He will strengthen us as He watches.
When you don’t know where to turn you can always turn to God. How often when we don’t know what to do and feel stuck do we turn to everybody and everything except the One who does know what to do? 2 Chronicles 16:9 is a reminder that self-help, social media, friends, family, fads—none of those sources of advice, comfort and direction are a substitute for turning to God when we are troubled, or we don’t know what to do.
I grew up out in the country close to some railroad tracks and I remember my dad teaching me an old lesson when I was just a boy. It is four words, but they sure are valuable in times when you don’t know what to do. I’m sure you have heard them. Stop, look, and listen. When you don’t know what to do, pause and turn to God, and listen to His Words through the Bible and through prayer. You can always turn to your Heavenly Father and talk to your Heavenly Father. You can trust your Heavenly Father will always know what to do. After all, He’s been watching you the whole time, just waiting for you to depend on Him.
Father, thank You that no matter what, I know I can always turn to You. Your presence and faithfulness never waiver. In Jesus’ name, amen.
