“Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.”
Colossians 3:2 (NIV)
Your mind is the driving force of your life. Are you living in clarity or confusion? When you win the battle of your mind, you have the power to win every other battle that comes your way.
Perhaps your mind is plagued with thoughts of regret, guilt, anxiousness or discouragement. Whatever you are battling in your mind, remember this: When you know Jesus, you are not fighting for victory – you are fighting from victory.
Jesus Christ has already won the war for your mind, and you can win today’s battle through Him. 2 Corinthians 10:4-5 tells you that you have supernatural weapons that destroy mental strongholds and anything that is set against the knowledge of God. Jesus has given you all the weapons you need to win every battle in your mind.
The first step to winning this battle through Christ is by directing your mind to the right things. Colossians 3:2 simply says to set your mind on eternal things, not the temporary, earthly things. That one little word, “set,” is so important. It means that You decide where your mind is set. You determine the direction of your thoughts. In Christ, you have been given the power to permit or resist any thought or idea.
So when those negative or sinful thoughts attempt to settle in your mind, you can resist them. Redirect your mind to the things of God. Regulate your inner perspective toward God, worship Him, and your outward behavior will come in line.
How can you do this? Sing the words to your favorite hymn or worship song. Close your eyes and begin to pray. Write Scripture on cards so you can draw upon God’s Word when you need it. You can be ready to fight back, knowing that the war has already been won.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, I praise You because You are all-powerful and nothing can thwart Your grand purpose. Thank You that You will contend with those who contend with me. And, Lord, thank You for equipping me to stand firm against all the schemes of the enemy. I choose today to set my mind upon Your goodness and steadfast love. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
