Refuge

January 8, 2025

“But as for me, it is good to be near God. I have made the Sovereign Lord my refuge; I will tell of all Your deeds.”
Psalm 73:28 (NIV)

What is your most important New Year’s resolution?

Let 2025 be the year you make God your refuge and tell of all His deeds. The word “refuge” in Psalm 73:28 means shelter from rain, storm, or danger. You will face storms and obstacles in the coming year. You will experience trouble in one way or another. And you need a refuge.

Who or what will you run to for shelter when those troubles come?

What if your first resolution for 2025 was to make God your refuge? No matter what goals you have in your heart, there is one that will empower you to fulfill the rest: Let your goal this year be to receive protection and comfort from God alone.

Every other area of your life will improve when you make this decision. Your relationships will improve because you’ll no longer look to others to make you happy. Your health will improve because you won’t need to dull aches or pains with substances or comfort food. Your financial situation will improve as you trust Him with the first of your income, the tithe, and welcome His wisdom to manage the rest.

The nearness to God and the refuge of His Name can change everything.

Notice the natural result of making God your refuge in Psalm 73:28. If God is my refuge, then I will tell of all His deeds. Praising God and sharing about His goodness is a natural by-product of intimacy with God.

As you seek God this year, you will know Him more. As you know Him more, you will begin to love Him more. And just like any growing relationship, as you love Him more, you will talk about Him more.

This is your year to be near God. As you make God your refuge, you will be filled with joy and a renewed desire to share His goodness with others.

Prayer: Father, Thank You resolve to make You my refuge in 2025. Remind me to run to You and You alone for shelter from the storms of life. Let me be close to You this year. Then, I will tell others of all You have done for me. Amen.
