“For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.”
Isaiah 9:6 (NIV)
Merry Christmas!
The end of each year provides an opportunity to look back at the last 12 months and reflect.
Perhaps you’ve felt the unrest in your own heart as you’ve seen it in the world–war, disaster, and division. On this Christmas Day, you may be dreading the family get-together or gathering with your friends because we are not only divided in our country but many homes are divided, as well.
Today’s verse offers a promise of hope instead of dread or despair. Among the names of Jesus in Isaiah 9:6 is the “Prince of Peace.” Jesus’ rule does not bring temporary relief, but complete soundness, safety and well-being.
And because Jesus brings forgiveness for sin and eternal hope, He ultimately brings peace on earth and to your heart. Jesus’ peace meets you before, during and after the family get-together. And Jesus’ peace meets you before, during and after you scroll through social media and start to feel inadequate.
And the peace Jesus gives is a peace that lasts. It is an everlasting peace that will free you from all anxiety for the future, all malice in the present, and all grudges from the past.
Maybe you have been seeking peace like this. Perhaps you seek peace in your marriage, at work, with your children and in your finances. You may need peace in decisions and direction. Place your trust in Jesus Christ. He is the ultimate source of peace. He is the Prince of Peace.
As you do, you will experience peace and unshakable security. In Him, you receive peace for every moment and every situation.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, Thank You for sending Jesus, the Prince of Peace. In my anxiety and worry over all that is going on in our world, our nation, my family and my friends, help me rely on Your Holy Spirit as my Helper and Guide. Remind me of Your everlasting peace, and help me seek You in every need. Grant me opportunities to make peace in my relationships, and be a peacemaker in situations in which I may be involved, through Your power and grace. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
