“They stripped Jesus and dressed Him in a scarlet robe. They twisted together a crown of thorns, put it on His head, and placed a staff in His right hand. And they knelt down before Him and mocked Him: ‘Hail, King of the Jews!’”
Matthew 27:28-29 (NIV)

Matthew’s account of Jesus’ crucifixion displays a surprising irony: "They stripped Jesus and dressed Him in a scarlet robe. They twisted together a crown of thorns, put it on His head, and placed a staff in His right hand. And they knelt down before Him and mocked Him: 'Hail, King of the Jews!'" (Matthew 27:28-29, NIV)
Charles Spurgeon said, "Men might be willing for Christ to save them, but not for Him to reign over them." You might willingly embrace Jesus as Savior while hesitating to acknowledge Him as King.
When you bow to Jesus as King, you actually end up receiving the one thing you have been so afraid of losing–freedom. “So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed” (John 8:36, NIV)
Today, choose one specific area where you're resisting Jesus' authority–perhaps your finances, relationships, or plans for your future. Surrender it to your King and experience the freedom of His loving rule.
