For God is not unjust so as to overlook your work and the love that you have shown for his name in serving the saints, as you still do.
Hebrews 6:10 (ESV)
How much of what you do in life really matters?
Will it matter in the next week, month or year? Most of what we do in life probably won’t matter in a decade or a century. But did you know that any service that we give to God or to others in His Name will matter for all eternity?
Today’s verse guarantees that despite what happens, your service offered to God for the sake of others, will always be remembered by God. What an amazing promise!
There is not one person who, deep down, does not want his/her life to truly matter. You were created with a God-given longing to make a difference, leaving a legacy beyond yourself. The only way to fulfill your yearning for significance is by living for the glory of God.
There is no work for God that is insignificant or unimportant. And there is no God-given dream that is unattainable. But so often people spend their lives working hard for possessions that don’t last.
Working only for material success is a futile way to live, because the cycle never ends. The more money you have, the more things you want to buy. It is a cycle that leaves you living a stressed, busy, empty life. God has created you for so much more.
Living for the glory of God happens in any context where He has placed you. You can serve Christ as a little league coach or a garbage man, a cashier or a stockbroker, a stay-at-home parent or a cardiac surgeon. There is no limit to how God can use a surrendered life – your life.
You have a choice. You can choose to chase the “American Dream” with a garage full of stuff, or you can choose to live God’s unending dream, spending your life on what truly matters: God and people. When you love and serve others, you are loving and serving Him – and He will remember and reward you.
Prayer: Jesus, Thank You for the opportunities You give me every day to love and serve You by loving and serving others. Please help me to always remember the work I do for You is never in vain. In Your name I pray, Amen.
