I know, O Lord, that the way of man is not in himself,
that it is not in man who walks to direct his steps.

If you ask Google, “What should I do?,” more than 64 million results appear: That’s a lot of different opinions, ideas, suggestions, and points of view!
Desperate for purpose and direction, many people try anything—including asking Google—for guidance. Advice experts flood the market with videos, books, blogs, and podcasts. People long for insight about careers, family, health, and finances.
We are desperate for help and hungry for answers. We don’t know what will happen in the next 15 minutes, much less the next 15 years, and yet we hustle to manage all the details.
Today’s passage challenges us to recognize our place as dependent creatures. As hard as we try, we cannot control the future. He is our Creator, and He knows us better than we know ourselves.
Our problem is not in seeking help or guidance...it is seeking help and guidance from the wrong person.
Ultimately, the best counselors and authors are just like us—human. The wisest people can still be wrong. There is only One who is always wise and always right. God knows the future and can be trusted to walk with us through any unknown.
Need help? Want advice? Ask away! Make sure you seek answers from the only One who truly provides them. There are no quick fixes or loopholes to fulfilling your destiny.
God authors your life, and He will work your uncertainty and pain into His good plan. He can be trusted with every fear, question, or worry.
For He always leads you in the way you should go.
Prayer: God, forgive me for looking to other people or things for comfort and guidance. I pray the words of Psalm 143:8: “Show me the way I should go, for to you I lift up my soul.” Teach me to do Your will, my God. In Jesus's name, amen.
