“The heavens declare the glory of God, and the sky above proclaims His handiwork.”
Psalm 19:1 (NIV)
As our nation has yet to find out who our next leader is, let’s keep our focus on the true source of peace and power: Jesus. One way to do that is to fill our hearts and minds with worship. And, I have the perfect playlist for you. In fact, did you know that God created the first playlist?
A playlist is a list of video or audio files–usually of music–that is collected on a phone or laptop so that you can listen to what you love. God put together a list of biblical songs that speak to your major questions about life with God, evil and suffering. We call this playlist, “The Psalms.”
And Psalm 19 is one of heaven’s greatest hits. C.S. Lewis called Psalm 19, “The greatest poem in the Psalms and one of the greatest lyrics in the world.” This Psalm tells you that you don’t have to look far to find God.
What do you see when you look up in the sky? In the four stanzas of Psalm 19, David tells you that God has spoken and revealed Himself in the expanse of the heavens so that you can know not only that He is, but also who He is. When you look at creation, you can see the evidence of God’s existence and character all around you.
David opens this psalm with these words, “The heavens declare the glory of God, and the sky above proclaims His handiwork.” Throughout the rest of the song, David sings of:
It’s as if God is beckoning your heart through this song…”Look up,” He whispers. “Don’t miss Me. I am here!” Take a moment to look up and soak in the evidence of God’s existence. Marvel at His glory and handiwork in creation. Remember that His steadfast love is fixed on you. Then set that playlist to repeat and worship all day long.
Prayer: Dear Lord, When I consider the work of your hands–the moon and stars suspended in space–I wonder why you are mindful of me. I see the wonder of Your work and the reliability of Your character. Father, help me always trust You, for You alone are worthy, O Lord. I praise You and thank You, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
