God Owns It All

May 26, 2020

The earth is the Lord’s, and everything in it, the world, and all who live in it. (Psalm 24:1)

Take a minute and think about everything you own, everything you have in your possession – your cash, your clothes, your cars, your house, your furniture, your 401K, your jewelry, your stocks, everything. When you start to list things out, it seems like you have a lot, right? Well, think again. Because according to Scripture, God owns it all.

The world, everything in it, and everything on it all belongs to the Lord. Now if God owns everything you possess, then what does that make you? That makes you not an owner, but a manager. You are what the Bible calls a steward. God has blessed us with every single thing we possess and has given us the opportunity to steward our blessings well. Because when we become good stewards we live in financial freedom.

If you come to understand that God owns it all, you will never be in financial trouble. The way you think about finances will never be the same. No longer will you think of your belongings and your money as yours. You will think of them as gifts from the Lord that you are managing during your time on earth. You won’t look at money as a way to get what you want or a way to satisfy yourself with material things. You will look at money as a way to provide for yourself and your family, and a way to bless others with your generosity.

So don’t spend another day living as though you are an owner. Instead, live your life as a steward, one who wants to be faithful to the true owner and manage their belongings and finances in a way that brings glory to the Father.

Dear Lord, thank you for all of the blessings you have given me on this earth. You are such a generous God. I pray that you would help me going forward to remember that you are the true owner of everything, and I am just a manager. Help me to learn to be a good steward with what you’ve given me and give me the opportunity to be generous towards others with my resources. Amen.
