“Consider the ravens: they neither sow nor reap, they have neither storehouse nor barn, and yet God feeds them. Of how much more value are you than the birds!”
Luke 12:24 (NIV)
I learned something very interesting about birds recently.
Birds have a substance located just above their beaks called magnetite. It is a mineral that helps them detect the Earth’s magnetic field and navigate true north. If you have ever wondered how birds know where to travel before the weather turns, this is the secret to their migration.
Scientists call it “instinct,” but it is God’s gift that guides these birds. Each bird possesses an inward call, an ability to function by the Creator’s design. And Jesus says you have far more of your Creator’s care than any bird.
Luke 12:24, Jesus asks you to “consider” the ravens. That word means to think attentively and carefully; to fully concentrate your thinking on something. Jesus wants you to focus intently on how much He cares for you. If God cares so intentionally and precisely for a bird, how much more can you expect Him to care for you, His very own child?
God promises to care for you, attend to your needs, and place His own Spirit inside you to navigate life’s migrations.
He created you in His own image, which means you have been given abilities that other creatures do not have. More than any other creature, you have been truly called. Take time to intimately know your Creator. Trust His Spirit, your God-given compass pointing you to Him. You can rest carefree in the care of God.
And in a much deeper sense than any bird, you are free. You are freely embraced by your Father, safe in His watchful eye and loving care. Listen today for the inward call of your Creator. You will experience the freedom you are created for.
Prayer: God, I know that no one loves me or cares for me as You do. Thank You for calling me into a relationship with You through faith in Jesus. May my answer to You always be “Yes.” In Jesus' Name, Amen.
