“The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands” - Psalm 19:1
Last week, we talked about how some people struggle with doubting the truth of God’s Word. That kind of doubt is a real thing. There are all kinds of doubts we can experience as human beings because of our imperfections and sinful nature.
This week, I want us to continue to address different doubts that people struggle with. So today and tomorrow, we’re going to tackle the existence of God. I love the way Albert Einstein said it when he stated, “You look at this world and you will see outstanding evidence for God.” With this quote in mind, I am going to show you why I believe Einstein’s claim is true and that he knew what he was talking about.
Today, let’s discuss the first way we can see evidence of the existence of God. Then tomorrow, we’ll discuss two more ways.
The first way we can see evidence of God’s existence is by looking at the physical world. Almost three millennia ago, a king by the name of David wrote a psalm in Psalm 19. C.S. Lewis called this psalm, “The greatest poem in the psalms and one of the greatest lyrics in the world.”
The psalm is really very simple. God has spoken loudly enough that everybody can hear Him, and God has shown Himself clearly enough that everybody can see Him. You don’t have to look very far. All you have to do is just look up.
David says, “The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands” (Psalm 19:1). The entire universe is like a gigantic billboard where God announces 24/7, “I am here! I exist!” So when we’re doubting the existence of God, a great step to take is to look at the physical world around us.
Dear Lord, thank you for creating the universe and everything in it. It is amazing to see how your creation points back to your existence in so many amazing ways. Help me to look around at the physical world for evidence of you when I’m struggling with doubt. In Jesus’ name, amen.
