Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come. – 2 Corinthians 5:17
When a child is born, that child will bear the characteristics of two people: his mom and his dad. He has their nature. He has their looks. His personality is shaped and influenced by what they brought to him through conception.
In the same way, when you are born again and God becomes your Father, you will look like Him, act like Him, and live like Him. You don’t have to question whether or not a child comes from his mom or dad. He will bear their marks, and so will a child of God.
We are not to be like the husband who, before he was born again, used to berate his wife, picked on his wife, nagged his wife, and was heavy-handed with his wife. Finally, he supposedly became born again but nothing changed. He kept the same behavior up – nagging, berating, criticizing, and putting her down. Finally, she looked at him and said, “I don’t mind that you have been born again. I just wish you hadn’t been born again as yourself!” When you are born again you aren’t born again as yourself. You are born again as a new you.
Now make no mistake. According to Jesus, whether or not you will see the Kingdom of God and then enter the Kingdom of God is an answer to this question, “How many times have you been born?” If you have only been born once, you are going to die twice - you are going to die physically and you are going to die forever spiritually.
On the other hand, if you have been born twice, at most you are only going to die once. You can’t even understand why Jesus Christ came to this earth if you don’t understand why you must be born again. Jesus was born physically so that we might be born again spiritually. As He entered into an earthly family by physical birth, we can enter into His eternal family by spiritual birth.
Have you been born again? Do you look like your Heavenly Father? Have you experienced a spiritual birth that allows you to have a relationship with Jesus and spend eternity with Him in heaven? If not, I pray today would be the day you make the decision to do so. As you do, I can promise your life will never be the same.
Dear Lord, I want to emulate you. I want people to know that I am your child by the way I act, the way I speak, and the way I think. Give me the desire to live a life that glorifies you rather than one that glorifies my flesh. In Jesus’ name, amen.
