Do the Right Thing

January 22, 2025

“Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.”
Matthew 5:10 (NIV)

Do you want to experience more life satisfaction and less stress?

A recent study from Gallup and Harvard Business Review revealed that when employees feel safe to speak up at work, they experience 50% more productivity, 76% more engagement, 29% more life satisfaction, and 74% less stress.

Creating an environment where people are encouraged to “do the right thing” results in an improved life.

Growing up, you likely remember the Golden Rule: Be kind, compassionate, and care about others. But as you grow, ethical questions can sometimes seem grayer. Doing the right thing is not only hard at times, but it can also result in rejection or persecution.

The Bible says in Matthew 5:10 that those who are persecuted for doing the right thing are blessed by God. If others disapprove when you do the right thing, verse 12 promises that your true reward isn’t people's approval but heaven's applause.

Even in the face of opposition, God will bless and reward you with the entire Kingdom of Heaven now and in the life to come.

What about the times when it is hard to do the right thing? You cannot consistently live with integrity on your own. Without the daily help of the Holy Spirit, it is difficult to do the right thing.

In Christ, the Holy Spirit gives you the power to do what is right. When you listen to Him and obey His Word, you can live a distinctly different life. Your life won’t be characterized by scandal but by sanctification–meaning you are set apart for God’s purpose.

Perhaps you feel you’ve missed the opportunity to “do the right thing.” It is always the right time to turn to God. When you humble yourself before God, He blesses you with forgiveness and the power to do the right thing.

A life with more satisfaction and less stress is what God has for you. Tune into Jesus and His ways. As you follow Him, you will have the power and courage to do what is right in every situation.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, Thank You for Your powerful Word. I praise You for Your promise and blessing! When I want to go my own way, remind me that Your way and Your will are worth it. When I suffer because I’m following you, use my life to be an example to others that I won’t back down from Your Word when things get tough. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
