Jesus said to her, “Your brother will rise again.” Martha answered, “I know he will rise again in the resurrection at the last day.” Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die; and whoever lives by believing in me will never die. Do you believe this?” – John 11:23-26
Many people have doubts that there is life after death. But over the next couple of days, I’m going to show you why I believe there is more after this life than this life.
I believe there is more to come because death is both an end and a beginning. As we look at what the Bible has to say and what Jesus had to say about life after death, we’ll learn three things. We’re going to cover the first one today, and then we’ll look at the other two tomorrow. Let’s dive in.
First, Jesus says that death terminates physical life. One day, whether you burn your body or bury it, it doesn’t matter. It is going to turn to dust, and it is going to disappear. This is God’s way of letting us know that at the end of the highway called “life,” there is an exit ramp called “death.” You have to take it, you will get off this road, and your life will end. There’s no way around that.
That reality forces us back to this question, “Is there life after death? Is there more to come or is the end the end?” I hope you’ll come back tomorrow as we continue this conversation.
Dear Lord, thank you that you gave us hope for life after death. Even though this life on earth is temporary, we can look forward to an eternity spent with you in heaven if we surrender our lives to you today. How grateful I am for that opportunity. Help me not to take it for granted. In Jesus’ name, amen.
