Called To Live The God Life

March 24, 2025

"Now Elijah the Tishbite, from Tishbe in Gilead, said to Ahab, 'As the Lord, the God of Israel, lives, whom I serve, there will be neither dew nor rain in the next few years except at my word.'"
1 Kings 17:1 (NIV)

Have you ever felt completely ordinary yet sensed God calling you to do something extraordinary?

The passage describes Elijah as "a nobody from nowhere"–someone with no influence or political connections. He'd never seen a palace or met royalty. Yet this ordinary person walked boldly into the king's presence and delivered God's message without hesitation. Like Elijah, God often uses ordinary people who trust Him completely.

In 1 Kings 17:1, we meet Elijah, a nobody from nowhere, demonstrating extraordinary courage as he confronts a powerful king.

Like Elijah, an ordinary man from an obscure place, God calls and empowers you to stand for Him in difficult situations.

Notice Elijah doesn't begin with his credentials or try to prove himself. He simply declares "As the Lord, the God of Israel, lives, whom I serve..." His identity is found in the God he serves, not in his background or abilities.

God uses ordinary people who are fully devoted to Him.

You may feel insignificant today, but God sees you differently. He has placed you exactly where you are and given you power to stand for Him. Whether in your workplace, school, neighborhood, or family, you have a calling from God.

Identify one place in your life where God may be calling you to stand and speak His Word. Pray for the courage to embrace your calling, whatever it may be, and take one small step of obedience today.

Remember, the God life isn't about your ability but about your availability. God doesn't call you because you’re qualified; He qualifies you because you are called.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, Thank You for choosing ordinary people like me to accomplish Your extraordinary purposes. Help me to see myself as You see me—as Your representative in a world that needs Your truth. Give me the courage of Elijah to stand for You, even when it's difficult or unpopular. I surrender my life to Your calling today. In Jesus' name, Amen.
