“Now the God of peace, that brought again from the dead our Lord Jesus, that great Shepherd of the sheep, through the blood of the everlasting covenant, make you perfect in every good work to do His will, working in you that which is well pleasing in His sight, through Jesus Christ; to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen.” Hebrews 13:20-21
Do you want to please God? As Christ followers, that must be a goal for our lives. But can we please God…and how do we please God? Can we bring up within ourselves the deeds and thoughts that will please a holy God?
Thankfully, the Bible tells us we don’t have to. God doesn’t want us working for Him; doing a daily task list of things we think might make Him happy. Rather, God is pleased to work in us, through the Holy Spirit, to accomplish His will through our good works. It is God Who provides the means to please Himself. It is God Who equips us with talents and skills. It is God Who prepares the needs before us that must be met. And it is God Who works in us to perfect us as we accomplish the work He prepared for us.
Being a God pleaser is not a magic combination of works or talents that will result in God being happy with us. It is being submitted to God, so that His work can be accomplished in us as His will is accomplished through us.
God, thank You for providing a way for me to please You through Your Son Jesus living in me. I pray that I am submitted to the work You are doing in my life, and that as I complete the good works You have prepared for me, You will be glorified. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
