A Humble Heart

January 10, 2025

“He guides the humble in what is right and teaches them His way.”
Psalm 25:9 (NIV)

How would you like to know the right path every time?

In the era of smartphones, you can simply enter an address and instantly receive the fastest route to your destination. You can be confident that you’ll know the direct path, never needing to worry about getting lost.

But did you know that as a child of God, you have an even more reliable guidance system? It is found in today’s verse: “He guides the humble in what is right and teaches them His way.” (Psalm 25:9 NIV)

If you’re like me, you do not like to be told what to do. You naturally want to make your own decisions without asking permission. But today’s verse promises that you can follow the right way by doing one thing: admitting that you need guidance.

God’s Spirit empowers you to stop saying, “My way,” and instead declare, “Your way, Lord.” The biblical word for this posture is called humility. Nothing pleases God more than a humble heart. And when you come to Him, God forms a humble heart within you.

Throughout Scripture, God delights in a humble heart. In Psalm 25:9, humility is rewarded with God’s guidance and wisdom. As you humble yourself, He teaches you His way and what is best.

If you want to do things your way, God will often let you. He respects your freedom and allows you to learn. If you do not humble yourself, He will allow your circumstances to teach you. But He wants to help and guide you.

Choose the road to humility. Come before God and admit that you need His guidance. Instead of trying to correct your mistakes, allow the Lord to guide you. You can have the confidence that you are walking in His way.

Prayer: Lord, thank You for Your endless grace. I praise You for the guiding presence of Your Holy Spirit. Today I humble myself before You and admit that I need your help. Please guide me in what is right and teach me Your ways. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
