"On the evening of that first day of the week, when the disciples were together, with the doors locked for fear of the Jewish leaders, Jesus came and stood among them and said, 'Peace be with you!'"
John 20:19 (NIV)
Have you ever locked yourself away because you were afraid of what might happen next?
Picture the disciples huddled together on Easter Sunday night, doors bolted tight. They're terrified that the same authorities who crucified Jesus are now hunting them down. In their fear and confusion, they're trying to keep everyone out—but locked doors can't keep Jesus out.
When Jesus appears in that room, His first word isn't "Why didn't you believe?" or "Where's your faith?" It's simply "Peace." The risen Christ brings the one thing fear cannot manufacture: supernatural peace that comes from above, not from circumstances.
Before you become a follower of Jesus, you're at war with God. But the moment you surrender your life to Christ, you immediately have peace with God, peace from God, and the peace of God. As Romans 5:1 reminds us, "Since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ."
The reason Jesus’ disciples felt fear was because they lacked faith. They had seen the empty tomb, but they hadn't yet seen the living Lord. But here's the truth: if Jesus Christ has risen from the dead, there's no need to fear anything, not disease, disaster, demons, or death.
Our world is full of chaos and conflict. People need to see followers of Jesus who keep their heads while everyone else is losing theirs. When you have the God of peace in your heart, you'll have the peace of God in your heart.
Whatever fear has you locked behind closed doors today, remember that Jesus specializes in walking through barriers that seem impossible to cross.
Prayer: Lord Jesus, thank You for bringing Your peace into my fearful heart. Help me trust in Your resurrection power rather than hiding behind locked doors of anxiety. Fill me with Your supernatural peace today. In Jesus' Name, Amen.
